Blossom Music Center

The Cleveland Orchestra will be returning to their summer home at the Blossom Music Center this season with yet another exciting line-up for the most anticipated event on their calendar: the Blossom Music Festival. With a program jam-packed with back-to-back musical magic, audiences can look forward to wonderful evenings under the stars celebrating a life in music. The magnificent venue can host up to 19,000 patrons, and with its lush gardens, art gallery, and restaurant as the cherry on top, it guarantees an unforgettable experience!

The Cleveland Orchestra, under the baton of maestro Antonello Manacorda, will be welcoming the award-winning German violinist, Christian Tetzlaff, to the stage once again. Tetzlaff regularly performs with some of the world’s most renowned orchestras, both on stage and in recordings. His full, lyrical sound is continuously blowing audiences across the globe away, and the proof is in the accolades: Christian Tetzlaff was named Instrumentalist of the Year in 2005 by Musical America, and his recording of Schumann’s piano trios, alongside pianist Leif Ove Andsnes and his sister, cellist Tanja Tetzlaff, was awarded the Gramophone Award for Best Chamber Recording.

Christian Tetzlaff will be blowing life into the beautiful and eloquent Violin Concert No. 5 in A Major, K. 219 “Turkish” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, a gem in the concerto repertoire. The marvelous concerto reflects absolute musicality, from virtuosic passages to strong accents, exotic chromatics, and sudden crescendos; from the dark emotional undercurrent of the second movement to the outbursts of “alla Turca” in the third movement; from bold musical statements to the percussive drone of cellos and basses playing 'col legno'.

Maestro Antonello Manacorda, Italian violist and conductor, will also be heading up his favorite - the Overture in E major, Op. 21, to “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”. The work is renowned for its striking instrumental effects, such as the emulation of scampering fairy feet and the braying of the character Bottom as a donkey.

Audiences will also be treated to Beethoven’s most melodically rich and pleasing of all of his symphonies - Symphony No. 7 in A Major, Op. 92. The rustic simplicity, rhythmic vitality and momentum, colorful orchestration, magnificent orchestral sonorities, and favoring of woodwind solos and horn calls have contributed to the symphony’s reputation as a connoisseur-favorite.
