Blossom’s traditional, star-studded celebration with the stunning Blossom Festival Band is returning this fourth of July! From this must-see show, audience members can expect a mix of patriotic marches, Broadway favorites, an Armed Forces Salute, and more, before finishing with a spectacular fireworks display.*
Known and loved as one of the finest ensembles of its kind in America, the Blossom Festival Band performs each summer in North East Ohio, continuing a long and well-loved tradition of outdoor band gigs in the US. The ensemble is deep rooted in historic American band music and some of its iconic leaders. Every summer at the Blossom, audiences have been treated to beautiful band music. From 1969 to 1973, band concerts were conducted by the incredible Meredith Willson (composer of Broadway’s The Music Man). He toured with the Sousa Band as a flutist at just 17 years old. After the success of these concerts, a genuine symphonic band and concert program was organized under the direction of legendary Leonard B. Smith. Having directed the Detroit Concert Band for many years and as a widely acclaimed cornet soloist, he is another of the nation’s most respected band directors. Leonard B. Smith debuted at the Blossom conducting "The Golden Symphonic Band of Blossom Music Center" in "A Salute to Labor Day" on 4 September 1972. And ever since, the Blossom Festival Band has been bringing audiences together through stunning music.
Fast forward to 2004 and the Blossom Festival Band recorded its very first album, under the direction of Loras John Schissel. The album was released as a CD by the Musical Arts Association (parent organization of The Cleveland Orchestra and the Blossom Music Festival).
Blossom Music Center is one of the most stunning venues out there. Located in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, the amphitheater has provided a welcoming and gracious summer home for The Cleveland Orchestra since it opened its doors in 1968.
